Hello

At the Bookbumz Foundation, our MISSION is to enrich children's lives through books and music. We believe that reading is critical to the academic, economic, and social success of children. Unfortunately, many children complete their schooling without achieving more than basic literacy. Research shows that reading achievement is a strong predictor of future antisocial behavior. Children facing reading difficulties are significantly less likely to graduate high school, putting them at increased risk for unemployment, underemployment, and incarceration.

We began with a used book shoppe to provide the local community with cultural clubs and reading opportunities, while collaborating with local charities. After two years, we expanded our focus to work more closely with children's missions, aiming to support those whose needs surpass those of our immediate community. This dedication led to the formation of the Bookbumz Foundation.

Literacy development is a process that starts in infancy and follows a natural hierarchy of progression. While literacy develops alongside language, reading must be explicitly taught.

Moreover, researchers have identified a significant connection between music education and improved performance in areas such as reading comprehension, spelling, mathematics, listening skills, and various primary mental abilities (including verbal, perceptual, numeric, and spatial skills).

Several studies conducted by the American Association for the Advancement of Science at Brown University have examined the impact of art and music education on young children's learning. The findings support the notion that music instruction can enhance intellectual and emotional skills, facilitate children's learning, and bolster academic performance in subjects like reading and math. Additionally, these studies suggest that music positively influences individuals of all ages.

The Bookbumz Foundation actively seeks out underserved communities to establish kids' libraries, literacy programs, or music education initiatives, giving children a chance for a brighter future!
